I mentioned the other day that I spent pretty much the whole of last weekend trolling various websites while I tried to figure out what kind of travel I would like to indulge in next. I also mentioned that the cheap flights to Zanzibar in August that I had been counting on using to celebrate our anniversary (seven years folks, and we still like each other!) were sold out by the time I was ready to take the plunge and pay for them.
Disappointments aside, I did find out some cool things while I was fiddling and I thought that I would share them with you, even though I won’t be able to take advantage of them myself.
I’d first like to say that I have fallen in love with Fast Jet and I recommend that if you’re a bit like me and are happy to travel just wherever as long as the flights are reasonable, then you should be trolling their page. And no: no one paid me to say it. I legit love them. (That said if there are any Fast Jet marketing folks out there wondering if they could get this dreamy-eyed travel blogger to say nice things about them in exchange for payment then the answer is yes yes yes a thousand times yes!)
1.) If you fly Fast Jet from Johannesburg to Zanzibar on Friday the 18th of November and return on Wednesday the 30th of November your flights will cost you R2816 per person. Including taxes.
2.) If you fly Fast Jet from Johannesburg to Vic Falls for a long weekend (enough time in Vic Falls apparently) on Thursday the 23rd of June and return Sunday the 26th, your tickets will cost you R2018 per person (use the JET30 promotion which ends on the 31st of May).
That is insane! I promise you it is.
Now… Jet charges you for your seat as well, a charge which ranges between R30 and R180 if I’m not mistaken. And they charge you for your hold luggage – R255 per bag under 20kgs if you pay for your luggage online, and double that I think if you pay for your checked baggage at the airport. BUT…. if you’re going to Zanzibar then one 20kg bag for two people is enough (plus you have your hand luggage allowance) and if you’re going to Vic Falls for the weekend do you REALLY need to check a bag? Hand luggage might be enough.
It’s a steal, folks. And I know because I am watching flight costs ALL the time. It’s not always easy to figure out when is the most cost effective time to go somewhere, so I thought I’d just give you a heads up.
Dammit… Now I kinda wish I could go…
PS: Flight prices change constantly. Don’t wait when you spot a good deal. Those deals disappear quickly!
